- ➤ Longtime Westport residents Carl Swanson and Jo Ann Miller are holding a moving sale on August 9 and 23 at their North Avenue home to benefit VFW Post 399 and 06880 before they move to Bermuda; today, local art fans can visit the Westport Permanent Art Collections exhibit at the Senior Center from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and this weekend, lifeguards held a Lifeguard Olympics at Compo Beach—residents can also rent fire pits at South Beach for $150. 06880

- ➤ A man was arrested in Wilton after a turn signal violation on Aug. 1 led police to discover he had his license suspended 12 times and multiple prior arrests—he provided false information and no valid documents and was released on a $500 bond with a court date on Aug. 14. WFSB
- ➤ Cielo Davila, 24, of Stamford was arrested in Norwalk on Aug. 1 for selling illegal cannabis and nitrous oxide products from a smoke shop on North Main Street—he faces charges for violation of restricted substances with a $1,000 bond and a court date on Aug. 15. WFSB

- ➤ Broadway star Linedy Genao will perform Songs from My Sala at the Westport Country Playhouse on Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., where she will share her journey from performing in her living room to Broadway with a live band playing guitar, saxophone and Latin percussion — ticket prices are $40 and $45. - ➤ Westport’s Planning and Zoning Commission rejected The Hamlet—a five-acre plan to add apartments, hotels, shops and restaurants near the train station—on August 4th by a 4-0 vote with three abstentions. Developers said they will build a 500-plus unit apartment complex with much affordable housing if the plan is dropped, and local officials worry the change could pressure schools and raise taxes ahead of elections. - ➤ In May, the Board of Education confirmed that Staples soccer coaches Russell Oost-Lievense and Chris O’Dell did not have their contracts renewed and have since joined Fairfield Warde High School’s coaching team, where the Mustang community welcomed them. The coaches, both Staples graduates and former team captains, sent heartfelt letters and announced a future fundraiser for pediatric cancer research on September 27 & plan to work with Staples again. 06880
