COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale for Harvest Fest at Wakeman Town Farm, which will start at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at 134 Cross Highway. The event will offer seasonal food by local farmers and chefs, live music, and a live auction with proceeds going to support the Farm on the Go outreach program — space is limited and tickets have sold out quickly in the past.  Westport Journal
  • Westport town officials ask for public input on improving ADA access with sessions at the Senior Center on August 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and on August 21 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., while DPW crews use cold patch ramps on an unfinished part of the new Hillspoint Road sidewalk waiting on Eversource adjustments. In community news, Harvest Fest tickets are on sale for the Sept 13 fundraiser and the Westport Farmers’ Market Young Shoots photo contest is open through Friday—offering cash prizes for young photographers—while Melissa Newman is set to perform at Jazz at the Post on August 7 and Zoe Monschein won the batting title at the Women’s Major Softball Championship.  06880

CRIME NEWS

  • Westport police arrested five New York residents on Monday after they reportedly passed counterfeit cash at several local stores—one suspect is a 31-year-old man while the others include two 18-year-olds and two juveniles facing forgery and conspiracy charges.  The Hour

  • The Westport Arts Advisory Committee will dedicate Marc Zaref’s public sculpture Enso: The Magic of Every Moment at Eloise A. Ray Park on Wednesday, August 13 at 5 p.m.—the work is on loan for 5 years with the artist receiving an annual honorarium.  Westport Journal
  • Rachel Hall, a local detective and photographer, is displaying her photographs of Westport scenes at Westport Book Shop through Aug. 31—there will be a reception on Aug. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Westport Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Metro-North train fares will rise by 5% starting Sept. 1 as the MTA board approved a total 10% increase to maintain current service amid a jump in riders — commuters will face an additional 5% hike on July 1 next year. This change aims to keep the same number of trains running without reducing service.  CT Insider
