  • Westporters are helping Ukraine by raising funds and sending supplies as the war continues and donations slow. Leaders of Ukraine Aid International and other local helpers plan more ways to support Ukrainian people—providing key equipment and relief.  Westport Journal
  • Today in Westport, Shonda Rhimes— a local producer and screenwriter— will receive the Philanthropist of the Year award at the Plates with Purpose Gala on Sept 27, highlighting her work to ease food insecurity. Local services will shift channels on August 21 while Wakeman Town Farm programs, a closet donation drive by the Westport Woman’s Club, an au pair exchange day, school planning meetings, a film debut, jazz concerts and a Little League win add to a busy community calendar.  06880

  • The Clubhouse Restaurant in Westport has earned a reputation as a full-service venue after opening six months ago by offering a refined dinner menu featuring items like New York strip steak and fried oysters alongside bar staples such as smashburgers and wings. Owners Emily and Tim Zobl plan themed dinners—like tequila nights—and welcome groups for parties as they expand their event offerings.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • Three artists — Steve Moen, Tom Kretsch and Linn Cassetta — have their work on view at the Westport Library through Oct. 5, with exhibitions opening on Aug. 13, Aug. 27 and Sept. 17. Each reception will begin at 6 p.m. and include a conversation with Miggs Boroughs at 7 p.m., giving art lovers in Westport a chance to meet the creators.  Westport Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study from Connecticut’s tick testing lab found four tick species from seven countries hitchhiking into the state between 2019 and 2023 (researchers said travelers should use tick checks and repellents to stop the ticks from settling). The Cayenne tick tested positive for bacteria linked to spotted fever (raising health concerns), though no illnesses have been reported.  The Hour

  • Fairfield National Little League begins play in the Little League World Series today at 7 p.m. at Howard J.
