  • Local news roundup shows that Craig Schiavone has been nominated for the Planning & Zoning Commission while photographer Larry Silver will speak at MoCA CT on September 6 and Broadway actor Jamie Mann will perform during September 13—14; Westport Fire Department promoted four lieutenants, police made two custodial arrests and responded to a rollover on Riverside Avenue yesterday. Upcoming events include a CLASP Homes fundraiser concert on October 30, a second sale at Eleish Van Breems Home on September 13—14 and the 4th juried PopShop Market on September 20, while the community mourns Kenneth Klein, who died on August 21 with services set for September 4.  06880

CRIME NEWS

  • A new UConn study found that 54% of force incidents in Connecticut were carried out by 10 police departments — including Westport police. The report covering 1,516 incidents from July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023 noted that officers mainly used physical holds and pointed guns and calls for more training on de-escalation and mental health response.  CTPost

CULTURE NEWS

  • Westport Country Playhouse will open its season Sept. 4—6 with 'Tuesdays with Morrie', starring Len Cariou and Christopher J. Domig in a play based on Mitch Albom’s memoir that will run for four performances. The production, directed by Erwin Maas and acclaimed off-Broadway, is the first of six shows scheduled through Summer.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 CIAC high school boys soccer season opens Tuesday, Sept. 2 with key games planned on Sept. 3 and Sept. 6 and features last year’s champions Farmington, Brookfield, Tolland, and Shepaug. The playoffs start with a playdown round on Oct. 29, quarterfinals on Nov. 6, semifinals on Nov. 11—13, and end with the championship on Nov. 15—16 at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford.  CTPost
  • A list of 25 top high school girls soccer players for the 2025 season is out for fans to watch. The list names players from schools such as Mercy plus New Canaan and shows key scores and future college plans.  CTPost
