CRIME NEWS

  • Anita Felix was charged with fifth-degree larceny for allegedly stealing $750 in cosmetics, fragrances and styling tools from Ulta Beauty on Post Road East on Dec. 8, 2023—she was arrested by Norwalk police on Sunday on other charges and is held on a $25,000 bond pending her Oct. 22 court appearance.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rev. Carlton Smith began his role as interim senior minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport on August 15—he has led churches in many regions. He will serve for one year while the congregation finds a long-term pastor.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Westport State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg said he is working with state lawmakers to change Connecticut’s affordable housing bill because he thinks state rules ignore local parking needs—he wants to keep local control while making more affordable homes. He said a special session this fall may help fix the bill to better serve Westport residents.  Westport Journal
  • Westport’s Sherwood Mill Cove Tide Gate Project will begin shortly after Labor Day and run through Memorial Day as crews repair two tide gates, a spillway, a wooden pier and several seawall sections. Portions of the Old Mill and Soundview parking lots will be used for staging—10 parking spaces lost at Old Mill and 20 at Soundview—while officials answer public questions.  CTPost
