  • Westport’s well-known power couple Craig Melvin — Lindsay Czarniak will host a two-day fundraiser on September 14—15 to aid colorectal cancer awareness and research. The event will begin with tailgating at 4:00 p.m. for a concert at Bridgeport’s Total Mortgage Arena and include a Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament at Shorehaven Golf Club.  Westport Local

  • After Labor Day, longtime Westport residents Melissa and Doug Bernstein were seen cruising down Hillspoint Road after enjoying the holiday. The couple, who founded a beloved toy brand and later sold it for $950 million, have now launched Lifelines—a company that offers wellness products for tweens, teens and adults.  Westport Local

  • News 12 reported that today's 13th annual Slice of Saugatuck Festival in Westport will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—the event features food tastings, retail experiences, seven bands, four bouncy houses, a balloon bender, a face painter, an antique fire truck and two beer/wine gardens.  News 12 Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today the Board of Education voted 4-2 to affirm Superintendent Scarice’s decision not to rehire Staples High freshman soccer coach Chris O’Dell after an 8-hour hearing at Town Hall—O’Dell missed the session because he had a soccer practice at Fairfield Warde High School.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Thursday evening’s meeting, town attorney Ira Bloom questioned whether the Flood and Erosion Control Board meant to close the public session on the Hamlet application review, and committee members and petitioners raised concerns about procedural flaws and environmental risks—further discussion is scheduled for Sept. 15.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brooks Running will sponsor the Brooks XC Championships — presented by Fleet Feet — to replace Foot Locker's nearly fifty year event for high school cross country runners, with the national championship scheduled for Dec. 13 at San Diego’s Balboa Park. Connecticut qualifiers will compete on Nov. 29 in the Brooks Northeast Regional Championship.  The Hour
