COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Westport events include the CraftWestport fundraiser at Staples High School on December 6 and 7 with over 165 local makers, the Cardz Against Cancer trading card project by Staples juniors donating half their proceeds to childhood cancer research, the Westport Country Playhouse’s Playhouse Playmakers for grades 6 to 8 starting October 12, and a record-setting performance by the Staples boys varsity golf team. The community also hosts today’s Rotary Club LobsterFest at Compo Beach and an interactive exhibit at the Weston History & Culture Center opening on October 5.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • StoryFest ’25 will add a musical element this October when the Westport Library hosts a screening of Bonnie Blue: James Cotton’s Life in the Blues at 6:30 p.m. on October 17—followed by a concert with the James Montgomery Blues Band, Christine Ohlman, and local saxophonist Crispin Cioe. The festival runs October 13 to 20 and features author signings, panel discussions, and a memoir debut.  06880

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn football beat Ball State 31-25 on Saturday, Sept 20 — with receiver Skyler Bell recording a career-high 14 catches and running back Cam Edwards rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns — to snap a two-game losing streak. The team also converted all five fourth-down attempts to secure the win.  CTPost
