  • In Westport, affordable housing has improved the lives of three families: one mother’s disabled son now lives independently in an Abilis unit — a preschool teacher’s two sons ride safely to school and a single mother with five children gained a fresh start through a lottery process. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Le Pain Quotidien opened a new bakery café at 635 Post Road East in Westport and brought a modern look with new menu items along with its classic tartines—District Manager Stephen Bartek said about 20 people visited one day after the opening and the café now stays open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Adam Sandler performed two sold-out shows at Mohegan Sun Arena and was honored on Sept. 26 when he became the 43rd inductee into the Walk of Fame—joining stars like Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi.  CTPost
  • Westport Arts Advisory Committee will soon install Weston artist Carole Eisner's 'Queen of Hearts' at the Westport Center for Senior Activities under a five-year loan program; the nonprofit Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities will pay Eisner $1,000 per year and the sculpture will be displayed in October or November.  CTPost

  • The Commerce Department reported that Connecticut posted a strong 4.6% annual growth in the spring quarter — its best since 2014 — with a low unemployment rate of 3.8%, while some economists warned that weak consumer confidence and slow hiring may signal a coming recession.  CTPost

  • Eleven Connecticut universities were named in The Wall Street Journal’s 2026 Best Colleges list — Yale University in New Haven was ranked the third best in the country. The rankings measured student outcomes, salary impact and diversity factors.  CTPost

  • Westport’s RTM District 1 race has multiple candidates—Andrew Bloom, Matt Mandell, Kristin Mott Purcell, Chris Tait, and Gail Coykendall—ready to share their plans to address local challenges like zoning and waterfront development, with their responses set to be published over the next five days in the order they will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.  Westport Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials report that hoarding has been linked to at least eight deaths in Connecticut since 2014 — including a Glastonbury woman found in February under piles of debris after being missing for seven months and a Cheshire woman who died when her floor collapsed under clutter — and fire chiefs say these dangerous conditions fuel fires and block rescue efforts. They urge early intervention and improved safety measures to help those struggling with hoarding disorders.  CTPost

  • Paige Bueckers, a former UConn women's basketball star, was named to the WNBA All-Rookie team after earning Rookie of the Year in her first season with the Dallas Wings.   • St. Joseph remained No. 1 in the Class LL/L coaches poll with seven first-place votes and a 9-1 record—even after its first loss to Trumbull—as New Canaan, Mercy, Trumbull, and Farmington also received votes; in the Class M/S poll, Lewis Mills led with seven first-place votes while Bacon Academy closed the gap with two votes.  CTPost
