  • Sikorsky is finalizing a 4-year contract with the Department of War to produce Black Hawk helicopters in Stratford (and Bridgeport), a move expected to support over 7,000 local jobs. The Army plans to purchase nearly 100 more Black Hawks in the coming years to maintain its growing fleet.  CTPost

  • Today, Staples High School senior Will Enquist writes for Student Speaks about how artificial intelligence is changing schoolwork in Westport — he explains that while AI can speed up assignments, teachers now set clear limits to help maintain critical thinking.  06880
  • Niche's 2026 rankings of Connecticut public high schools place Staples High School in Westport as the top school—eight of the state's top ten are in Fairfield County and the rankings use federal data and community surveys.  CTPost

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, October 1, residents in Connecticut reported a dazzling fireball streaking across the northwest sky at around 7:15 p.m.—over 30 confirmed reports with photos and video showed the meteor breaking into fragments before vanishing.  CTPost

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government shutdown continues to affect Connecticut services as TSA agents and air traffic controllers work without pay and residents may face longer lines, delays in passport processing, and slower Social Security and Medicare services. USPS operations and federal courts remain open while SNAP benefits risk running out if the shutdown lasts over 30 days—raising concerns about support for many families.  CTPost

  • More than 30,000 Connecticut residents may pay more than double for health insurance if Affordable Care Act subsidies end at the end of this year amid a federal shutdown fight—Gov.
