  • Westport has a busy week ahead with several events scheduled for local residents. Verso University is sponsoring an AI forum at Westport Library on Oct 11 with sessions on law, healthcare and business, while Westport Together will host Melinda Wenner Moyer at Westport Senior Center on Oct 20 to discuss raising great kids; additional highlights include the Book Shop’s annual pumpkin painting, a gala at Westport Country Playhouse, a WestPAC fundraising campaign and the new Lille Shoppe opening on Post Road West.  06880
  • Downtown traffic in Westport is being disrupted today by the Westoberfest Craft Beer and Fall Festival, with Elm Street, Church Lane, and southbound Main Street closed from noon to 6:00 p.m.—police ask drivers to take extra caution near the event.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Westport Journal today launched the Southern Connecticut Social Calendar to list live cultural events across southern Fairfield and New Haven Counties. Publisher Doug Weber said the new calendar features contributions from 50 institutions such as music venues, theaters, museums, and cinemas — Westport Library has already adopted it for promoting local events.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut's 8-30g affordable housing law has changed how towns build homes since 1989, and Westport now faces projects like ROAN Ventures’ Hamlet development that could add 400—500 units to a town with less than 4% affordable housing. Local leaders use new zoning rules and trust funds but may face long legal fights ahead.  Westport Journal
  • Westport candidates for Selectmen talk about key issues such as Saugatuck redevelopment, Cribari Bridge repairs and the shortage of affordable housing. One candidate said he will listen to residents and work with developers and state officials — while others shared similar plans to improve the town.  06880
