- ➤ AAA warns that deer mating season is increasing the risk of fatal collisions on Connecticut roads as 387 crashes were recorded from October to December last fall and drivers are advised to avoid sudden swerving— which can lead to head-on crashes— especially at dusk. CTPost
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Staples High School will ban cellphones, smart devices, Apple watches and headphones from use during school hours starting November 5 according to superintendent Thomas Scarice—this change follows similar rules already in place at elementary and middle schools. News 12 Connecticut
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kimberly Paris, a local business owner on Pumpkin Hill Road who has battled breast cancer since March 2024, has returned to creating her custom yard signs after finishing the hardest parts of her treatment—she now offers a new sign titled 'Cancer Picked the Wrong Girl' and donates 20% of each rental and sale to breast cancer support groups. This move comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month as she continues to deliver encouragement through her work. 06880

- ➤ UConn women’s basketball may move its season opener from Germany to the U.S. if the government shutdown lasts past Oct. 20—one planning source said the team will then play Louisville on Nov. 4 at the U.S. Naval Base.
