BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Westport Balducci's grocery store at 1385 Post Road E. will close no later than February 28 as it stays open through the holiday season. The company plans to transfer 59 non-union employees to other locations — offering severance pay if transfers are not possible.  The Hour
  • Martha Stewart's restaurant The Bedford by Martha Stewart at Foxwoods in the Grand Pequot Tower is delayed and will now open in March. The restaurant will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with seasonal specialties made from local ingredients—it was planned to open this fall.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut is giving food banks $3 million in emergency funds to serve up to six million meals as 360,000 residents will lose SNAP benefits on Saturday because of the federal shutdown. Gov. Lamont said the state will use Medicaid funds for a trial period and expects reimbursement once the shutdown ends.  News 12 Connecticut

  • Connecticut brokers say wealthy New York buyers are scanning suburbs such as Greenwich as high-end property sales surge amid concerns over rising NYC taxes ahead of the mayoral race. Sales have spiked since candidate Mamdani won the primary on June 24, and brokers note the trend—while not a massive wave—reflects cautious shifts in buying plans.  CTPost

SPORTS NEWS

  • Staples boys soccer won the FCIAC championship on Oct 27 when they beat defending champion Greenwich 3-2 at Fairfield Warde High School — their first title since 2010 — and coach Liam Witham said the win shows the team will now try for a state title.  CTPost
