  • The 3rd annual Historic Homes of 06880 tour will take place Sunday, November 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Westport as four historic homes, including properties at 249 Greens Farms Road and 221 Greens Farms Road, are showcased — proceeds support 06880's work on local history.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Christina Torres and Natasha D. Untracht shared letters supporting Abby Tolan for the Board of Education, saying she has a strong background in special education and a record of working well with others—neighbors are urged to vote for her on Nov. 4.  Westport Journal
  • The federal government announced that no new SNAP benefits will start November 1—affecting over 300,000 Connecticut families in need. Local food pantries and businesses have arranged alternative support to help residents access food during the pause in benefits.  WFSB

SPORTS NEWS

  • In an exhibition game at PeoplesBank Arena on October 28, UConn beat Michigan State 76-69 as former coach Jim Calhoun joined the broadcast and called a triple collision on an uncontested rebound 'kind of an ugly bill' in reference to a law—he also reunited with longtime friend Tom Izzo. UConn will begin its regular season on Nov. 3 and Calhoun will attend Monday’s game to sign copies of his new book at the UConn Bookstore.  The Hour
  • UConn's Braylon Mullins has been named to the preseason watch list for the Julius Erving Award—he injured his ankle in practice after his exhibition opener and is expected to miss six weeks with a return by mid-December.  The Hour
  • Darien beat Staples in a shootout win for the FCIAC field hockey championship on Oct 29 in Norwalk—backup goalie Tess Hageney stopped all five shootout chances and earned MVP honors, marking Darien’s first win over Staples in six championship meetings.  CTPost
  • On Oct 29, the Greenwich Cardinals won the FCIAC girls volleyball championship with a 3—1 victory over Ludlowe at Kuczo Gymnasium in Stamford. It was their fourth title since 2013 and the first for coach Marianna Linnehan, with junior Kayah Armstrong earning MVP with 18 kills and key plays.  CTPost
