COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rising Starr Horse Rescue in Wilton rescues about 35 horses a year and invites visitors for guided tours (where staff show horse training and care). Founded in 2015, the rescue rehabilitates, retrains and rehomes America's at risk horses (including miniature horses used in equine assisted services) to help both animals and people.  News 12 Connecticut
  • WestportMoms posted a Halloween message urging residents to be accepting of children who might show signs of developmental or sensory issues when trick-or-treating—such as taking extra candy or choosing one piece slowly. Their note reminds everyone to be kind and patient so that all kids can enjoy the holiday.  06880
  • Westport hosted a busy Halloween parade on Main Street—where costumed kids trick-or-treated and a window painting contest awarded young artists a $25 gift card—and announced upcoming events such as a library discussion on Jewish identity, a women artists exhibit at MoCA, and a financial forum on women’s needs. The community also offers environmental workshops and cultural shows while it mourns local graduate Jordan Kranz.  06880
  • On Oct 30, kids trick-or-treated along a parade route in Westport as the annual Halloween event ended at Veterans Green; the celebration was hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department—Downtown Association and Westport PAL to provide a safe gathering for families.  News 12 Connecticut

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Maman opened yesterday at 44 Church Lane in Westport and now serves a French-inspired menu with house made pastries, lunch salads, and seasonal coffee drinks for breakfast and lunch. The 2,100 square-foot space has 40 indoor and 20 outdoor seats—it can host up to 65 for events and offers catering and private event options.  CTPost

CULTURE NEWS

  • In October, many celebrities visited Connecticut—Ryan Reynolds attended a school play dress rehearsal in Westport, Ben Affleck picked up pizza during Yale Family Weekend in New Haven, Malala Yousafzai praised a local pie, Bryan Adams thanked Frank Pepe’s for a meal, and Shonda Rhimes spoke about living in the state. Other appearances included Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek visiting a vineyard, CT influencer Nara Smith earning national praise, and former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley passing away.  CTPost
  • The Spadtastics, a Darien-based tribute band, will perform two sets of 60s-70s Grateful Dead music at the Westport Library on November 8 at 7 p.m.—the event is part of a Supper and Soul series with drinks available at four downtown restaurants; tickets cost $30 and are sold online by the Chamber.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Candidates for the Westport Board of Education outlined plans for upgrading facilities—including athletic, classroom and special education spaces—while stressing careful budget management ahead of next Tuesday’s election. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nick Quatrano became Westport’s new parks superintendent in May and now manages parks, sports fields, beaches, Longshore and a cemetery. He is tackling deferred maintenance, ADA upgrades and decisions on synthetic turf—balancing citizen feedback with the town’s needs.  06880
  • Federal employees in Connecticut missed their full paychecks this week because of the government shutdown—causing financial strain as workers and unions urged Congress to end the impasse. Some agencies continued regular pay while others did not, and Foodshare helped TSA staff by providing groceries at major airports.  CTPost
