  • Girl Scout troops are hosting booths at over 400 voting sites and business locations across the state through Nov. 9 to offer cookies that add a sweet twist to election week—encouraging more Connecticut voters to head to the polls.   • Balducci's on Post Road East in Westport will close in February. The company did not give a reason for the shutdown and has not yet explained how employees will be affected.  News 12 Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • In 1994, Staples High School student Ari Edelson was denied permission to stage Falsettos due to concerns over sensitive topics, yet community support helped him move the production to Westport Country Playhouse. The play drew full houses and strong reviews—proving that speaking up for free expression is still important today.  06880

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coleytown Elementary School is delayed for 2 hours today and Stepping Stones Preschool is closed after a threat regarding CES was reported, though officials do not believe it is credible. Students bound for the elementary school were taken to Coleytown Middle School — where they sheltered in the auditorium and cafeteria as the matter was reviewed.  06880

  • Federal judges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts ordered the USDA to release $4.6 billion in SNAP funds by noon on Monday—Connecticut families among 360,000 now face delays for further food assistance as states recalculate benefits.  WFSB

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA recalled pre-cooked pasta from Walmart, Trader Joe’s, and Kroger after a listeria outbreak linked to Nate's Fine Foods caused six deaths and 25 hospitalizations nationwide, although no Westport stores have reported a recall. Customers who have bought these products should throw them away to avoid any risk of food poisoning — following food safety advice.  The Hour
  • Health insurance premiums for 150,000 residents using ACA coverage are rising 26% due to Medicaid cuts and the end of COVID-era federal tax credits—families may soon pay nearly double last year’s cost while enrollment fairs help residents navigate options until December 15.  WFSB
