  • Homes with Hope CEO Helen McAlinden thanked Westport donors for their support during a week of SNAP uncertainty after Connecticut reloaded November EBT cards. She credited volunteers from the Gillespie Center Food Pantry & local groups including Rotary Clubs, schools, and community organizations for their help.  Westport Journal
  • Westport community news offers a busy roundup as a start-up pitch competition will take place at the Westport Library on November 20 where five finalists will vie for $25,000 funding and the Farmers’ Market moves indoors to Gilbertie’s Herbs & Garden Center on November 20 with fresh produce and holiday market events beginning in December. Additional local updates include Cub Scouts honoring veterans with flag placements, a narrow election recount, a donation drive for durable medical equipment on November 15—16, a fundraising campaign for a documentary on WWII reporter Sigrid Schultz, a Gold Traffic Safety Award for Officer Dominque Carr, and upcoming cultural events in town.  06880

  • Italian restaurant Felice will open at 38 Main St in January as Connecticut’s first location serving fine Italian wines, while national retailer Johnnie-O will open at 49 Main St this winter; both had their sign designs approved at a Wednesday night meeting of the Architectural Review Board — Historic District Commission.  Westport Journal

  • On November 15 at 4pm, MoCA CT in Westport will host the final round of the Heida Hermanns International Music Competition—three world-class pianists will perform 45-minute programs.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At their final Board of Education meeting on November 6, departing members Kevin Christie and Robert Harrington were honored for their service to Westport schools—Christie is set to be sworn in as First Selectman on November 17 and Harrington was praised for his passionate advocacy.  Westport Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • ByHeart recalled two batches of baby formula after 13 infants were hospitalized with infant botulism across 10 states—CT health officials said no cases have been reported locally and are monitoring the outbreak. Parents and caregivers are advised to stop using the product and follow FDA guidance for safe disposal or replacement.  CTPost

SPORTS NEWS

  • Staples boys soccer beat Hall 3-1 on November 11 at Blue and Gold Stadium to reach the Class LL final for the first time since 2010—They will face Greenwich for the championship this weekend.  CTPost
  • UConn men's basketball beat Columbia 89-62 on Monday, and coach Dan Hurley said the team showed strong first-half play but faltered later and will need to play a full 40-minute game as they prepare for Saturday’s matchup with BYU in Boston—he added that tougher opponents will test their true strength.  The Hour
