COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Westport Farmers’ Market will move indoors on Nov. 20 to Gilbertie’s Herbs and Garden Center—with new heating and greenhouse upgrades—and add a monthly Saturday market starting on Dec. 6 to offer local produce and family-friendly activities. The market will run Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Mar. 13 and hold its pre-Thanksgiving event on Nov. 25 when the regular market is closed.  Westport Journal
  • Over the past two weeks, Homes with Hope said that Westporters met a SNAP pause caused by a government shutdown by raising over $20,000, collecting more than 700 grocery bags and buying 500 Amazon wish list boxes to reload benefits and serve 1,100 residents. Local Rotary Clubs and schools held food drives and donated fresh produce to support neighbors in need.  06880
  • A local roundup reported Staples High School boys soccer and field hockey teams will play in state finals this weekend with game times to be announced today, while a Fire Department coat drive seeks food donations for Thanksgiving, and the Library Big Fall Book Sale runs December 5-8 with the Holiday Stroll scheduled December 6.   • Westport resident Susan Granger reviewed Ken Ludwig’s farce “The Fox on the Fairway” at Music Theater of Connecticut in Norwalk. The play runs through Nov. 23 at 509 Westport Ave — mixing golf mishaps with witty bets — and offers a lively night of clever humor.  Westport Journal
  • Three pianists—Jiahao Han, Ye-Eun Hyun, and Zhu Wang—will perform 45-minute final sets at MoCA CT on Saturday, November 15, with an awards ceremony that will give the winner $20,000 and a solo recital invitation next year. The 49th Heida Hermanns International Music Competition, which began in 1972, will showcase talent selected from online and in-person rounds.  Westport Journal

  • The Finch Forecast shows that bird watchers in Connecticut will see more finches this winter, as strong evergreen cone crops bring redpolls, siskins, and purple finches to Litchfield County—data from Canadian surveys supports these predictions.
