  • Jen Tooker's 16 years of service was celebrated with a surprise event at Romanacci last night while local firefighters and volunteers delivered 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to Bridgeport families. The town will light its annual tree on the Town Hall lawn on December 1 — and Staples Players continue their run of Les Misérables amid a busy season of community events.  06880

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday evening, over 120 Service League of Boys members and friends paid $25 to play in a basketball fundraiser at Staples High School to support a scholarship honoring Perrin Delorey. The event raised more than $10,000—toward a $25,000 goal—for the Perrin Ryan Delorey “Do Your Best” Award, which will be given to a Staples class member next spring.  06880

  • A new report by the Connecticut Health Foundation found Black mothers face life-threatening complications at twice the rate of white mothers, affecting over 350 families each year — experts say delays in care and racial bias play a major role.   • Doctors said the new, strong flu virus Subclade K is spreading and Connecticut confirmed its first flu death when an older person from Hartford county died on Thursday — health experts told Westport residents to get a flu shot and follow safety steps like washing hands and covering coughs.  WFSB
