- ➤ The Westport Downtown Association will host the 5th annual Holiday Stroll on Saturday, December 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. with more than 50 merchants offering giveaways and family activities like caroling, Santa photo ops, and a Toys for Tots drive at Main and Elm; a holiday concert named On This Silent Night will take place on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation with tickets available starting at $25 in advance. 06880

- ➤ The Staples Music Department in Westport has updated the beloved 'Sing We Noel' processional with new parts—such as an oboe solo and revised percussion—to better fit a larger band while keeping the traditional tune. The 85th annual Candlelight Concert will take place December 12 at 8 p.m. and December 13 at 3 and 8 p.m., and free tickets are available starting at 9 a.m. today. 06880

- ➤ Connecticut officials say the state’s $4.8 billion rainy day fund—expected to grow to $6.1 billion—can cover a mild recession like the dot-com slump but would fall short for a severe downturn such as the Great Recession.
