- ➤ The annual Westport toy drive, run by the Police Department and PAL, is accepting new, unwrapped toys and cash donations at the ASF Sports and Outdoors store on Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; drop boxes are open until Dec. 15. Westport Journal
- ➤ Wheels2U, Westport’s on-demand shuttle service, is on track for a record of over 30,000 rides this fiscal year, having logged 13,234 trips from July through November; the service offers $2 rides between key community points and will provide free rides from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31 along with plans to switch to electric vehicles in the spring. - ➤ Connecticut plumbers warn that with single-digit temperatures expected tomorrow, Westport homeowners should keep their thermostats between 60 and 65 and disconnect garden hoses to help prevent frozen pipes. WFSB

- ➤ Westport dad and TV co-anchor Craig Melvin has launched his side business, Melvin Made, offering handcrafted coconut oil-based candles with clean fragrance; all proceeds go to support cancer charities. - ➤ Newell Brands said on Wednesday that Yankee Candle will close 20 stores in the United States and Canada by the end of the month — it will also lay off about 900 workers. No details were provided about whether Connecticut locations will be affected. The Hour
