  • Frank Pepe Pizza Napoletana will open its 18th Westport location next summer at White Birch Center on Post Road. The restaurant will offer 90 seats for dining + a takeout area for a smooth to-go experience.  CTPost

  • Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will stage his only New England show of 2026 at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport on May 15, featuring songs from his new album Who Is the Sky? + classic hits.  CTPost

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Staples High School’s new ban on cellphones and wireless headphones took effect on Nov. 5 to help improve classroom focus. The rule has drawn criticism from students and teachers who say it limits tools that support learning.  06880
  • The State Board of Education adopted a new framework on Dec. 8 that advises school districts to enhance bilingual programs, teacher training, and family engagement for English learners. The guidance will soon be shared with districts to support over 50,000 students learning English.  CTPost

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New state water quality data shows that Long Island Sound’s hypoxic area peaked at 18.34 square miles from July 29-31, the lowest in nearly 30 years, as decades of cleanup work + dry summer weather helped improve conditions for marine life.  CTPost

  • Westport activated cold weather protocols as an arctic front continues to bring temperatures in the mid-20s and lows below zero; Fire Chief Nick Marsan urged residents to dress warmly and seek immediate medical care if frostbite symptoms appear (red, tingling skin or numbness may signal frostbite).  CTPost

  • Bunnell's football team reached the CIAC finals for the first time in 18 seasons after a 21-20 win over Wilton on Monday at Fujitani Field, and they will face top-seeded Windsor for the championship on Saturday.  CTPost
  • UConn introduced Jason Candle as its new head football coach Monday at Rentschler Field; the Toledo veteran, who never lost a season in 10 years, praised the program’s nine-win seasons and promised to build on that strong foundation — aiming to elevate UConn football with his six-year contract.  CTPost
  • Greenwich's football team beat Fairfield Prep 31-10 on Monday night, Dec. 8, and the Cardinals will face No. 4 Southington in Saturday's CIAC Class LL championship game — senior Hector Lopez led the team with 152 rushing yards.  CTPost
